"A Man From Mandu" by Manoj V Jain
So I'm part of this book club in Facebook where folks discuss reading books, recommendations etc. I saw a post regarding a new book release and they are giving away 100 copies to first 100 people, without reading I just happen to request a copy, which book lover doesn't want a free book anyways. This book is "A Man From Mandu" by author Manoj V Jain. After receiving the book I searched about the author as I had never read his works and there were few good reviews about his previous books. This made me jump into the book immediately which I rarely do.
Coming to the book its a very small 160+ pages book which can be finished in one reading. The book is written in simplest language yet makes an deep impact on the reader along with entertaining the reader. The main characters are Tarini and Avishkar Baba, both comes from different background , both had different experiences in life and come together in the story to make an impact on the society. Is Avishkar Baba a new age Guru or Godman or is he a fraudster as the blurb of the book says, one must read the book to find out.
The 3 best things I liked about the book are: One the author's writing style, its very different compared to the other contemporary fiction writers and yet very simple for a layman to understand; two there are short stories in each chapter which are in the form of Sermons given by Avishakar Baba which seems to have abrupt end but is actually left to readers/listener's imagination, great morals and life lessons are involved in these short stories; Third thing I liked is each chapter have interesting Quotes of the Day for Instagram/whats app with the hashtag #SadhuOfStories which are simple and meaningful.Often we will see flashback stories and flashback within flashback but still reader wont be confused. The story plot is set for one year approximately and author portrays how beautifully the characters undergo metamorphosis at the end of that one year, and the last chapter makes you want to read more and feels like book ended abruptly but author has left it to reader's imagination and perception.
Overall its a very refreshing read and I hope more and more readers find this gem of a book. Thanks to author and the team for sending me the book.
